If you searched for a private journal app, a journal app without an account, or journaling without AI, this page is the direct answer. Unstuck stores your journal on your device, asks for no account, has no subscription, and no AI ever reads what you write. Here is exactly what each of those claims means, including the one caveat most apps do not mention.
Free for iPhone. Android planned.
What private actually means here.
Local-only storage. Your entries are stored on your device, not on Unstuck servers. There is no cloud sync in the current version.
No account. There is nothing to sign up for. No email, no password, no profile. The app works the moment you open it.
No AI reading your journal. No model reads, analyzes, summarizes, or trains on your entries. The AI policy page spells this out in full.
No subscription. Unstuck is free. There is no paid tier, no trial countdown, and no locked journal.
No trackers in the app. The app does not embed third-party tracking SDKs, run advertising, or sell data. Ever.
Optional app lock. A four-digit PIN with Face ID or Touch ID unlock, so the journal stays private even on a shared or borrowed phone.
The honest caveat: device backups.
Local-only means Unstuck does not upload your entries to servers we operate. It does not mean your phone never copies them anywhere. If iCloud Backup is turned on at the iOS device level, your Unstuck data can ride along in your iCloud device backup, which is an Apple-managed backup tied to your iCloud account. You can exclude Unstuck from iCloud Backup in iOS Settings if that matters to you.
The flip side is worth stating plainly. If you lose your phone and have no backup of any kind, the journal is gone, because nobody else has a copy. The fix is a periodic local export you store somewhere you control.
Built for brain dumps and nighttime thoughts.
A private journal is only useful if you actually open it. Unstuck pairs the journal with a brain dump tool for getting a crowded head onto the page in any order, a short daily check-in, a sleep wind-down for thoughts that get loud at night, and gentle reminders with no streaks attached. Miss a week and the app looks exactly the same as if you had written every day.
How it compares to other journal apps.
Most popular journaling apps store entries in the cloud, require an account, and charge a subscription for core features. Some add streaks and AI analysis on top. None of that is wrong, but it is a different trade. The Features page keeps a factual, dated comparison of Unstuck against Day One, Stoic, Finch, Reflectly, and Apple Journal.
Who this is for, and who it is not.
Unstuck fits if you want a plain, private place to write, gentle structure without pressure, and a few short reset tools for hard moments. It is a self-guided wellness and reflection app built by the team at shrinkMD. It is not therapy, not treatment, and not a crisis tool, and it will not diagnose or monitor anything.
If what you are looking for is guided programs, community, mood analytics, or cloud sync across devices, another app will serve you better today.
Try the private journal.
Free, no account, no streaks. Your entries stay on your phone.
